Eye Primer- A must?

eye primers

When I first started out with makeup, I did not use an eye primer and my eyeshadow disappeared within a couple of hours. The pigmentation of the eyeshadow was very poor, the application was not very smooth and it was patchy as well.

Then I found the solution and it did wonders. Now I cannot live without an eye primer.

Here are the reasons why I love eye primer:

  • It helps to keep the eyeshadow in place.
  • It makes the eyeshadow easier to blend.
  • It helps to even out the skin colour and discolourations.
  • The eye primer makes the pigment stand out and look more vibrant.
  • It prevents the eyeshadow from fading and creasing through out the day.
  • It helps the eyeshadow to last longer.

A Little Goes a Long Way

This is so true! All you have to do is dab a little of the primer onto your eyelid and blend it out evenly, gently using your finger to apply on the whole area of your eyelid up to the brow bone. Apply underneath the eye as well.

My preference is to use a matte skin toned primer.

Here are the list of eye primers that I have tried and love:

Urban Decay Primer Potion

I love this UD primer potion as it glides on smoothly and blends instantly. It is a long lasting and crease-proof primer. The packaging is also very unique. The only concern that I have is that when you get to the bottom of the primer, it is hard to get the last bit. However they have recently changed it to a tube packaging so if you get that, it won’t be a problem. As this is a higher-end brand, it can be quite pricey.

E.L.F. Eye Primer

This was the first eye primer that I tried and I personally love it. The consistency is very creamy and it is not thick. It is a good choice for those of you who have normal/dry eyelids. It is budget friendly and I do not have anything bad to say about it. This is one product I would not think twice before buying.

NYX Eyeshadow Base

This eyeshadow base works for me. I did not notice any creasing and got very smooth results. My eyeshadows were very pigmented and lasted all day. As the base is quite thick you have to make sure to blend it out evenly with your finger.

You can spot the difference on the picture below. You can see that on the right side of my eye, I did not use a primer. The blending is not very smooth and it is very patchy like. However on the left side of my eye (with primer on), you can see that my eyeshadows have blended well and the colours are more vibrant.

So in my opinion, Eye primer’s are definitely a must when creating eye looks! Hope my post helps you.
